Show I SPANISH FORK &OY ! DIES OF PNEUMONIA j ON THE OTHER SIDE ! E. EDWARD DUE ANT. I PSPSSSOoceotyxkvwvvvw. . SPANISH FORK, Nov. 11. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Durant received a telegram from the war department at Washington yesterday informing them that their son, R. Edward Durant, had died in France on October 16 of .Bronchial pneumonia. Just preceding the telegram the family had received a letter from the young man, stating that he was still in training, but hoped to eat his Thanksgiving dinner on the battlefield, and that he was at the time October 1 feeling fine. R. Edward Durant was born in Spanish i Fork on June S, 1.S93, and had always mad e his home here. For e i gh t years previous to his entry into military service ser-vice he wns employed as an expressman by Wells Fargo & Co., express. He was with the contingent of Spanish Fork boys who left the city October 4. 1917. They were sent to Camp Lewis, but after two weeks at that place were transferred to Camp Kearny, whei they were in training ten months with the 145th (Utah; field artillery. They were called for overseas duty and left New York ' about August 5. Charles Stewart, a near neighbor of Private Durant. died on October 5 of wounds received in action. Mr. Durant is survived by his parent?, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Durant, and the following fol-lowing brothers and sisters, all of this city: Earl, La Grande. Vaughn, Gladys, Grace, Mark, Ray and Delos Durant. He was a member of the Brotherhood of America n Yeomen. |
