Show ESCAPED CONVICT IS SHOT THROUGH BOO! Disregards Surrender Order Or-der and Shooting Follows. Fol-lows. Special to The Tribune. GRANTSVILLE, Nov. 11. Harvey Ketchum, 17 years of- age, who, with Augustus Au-gustus Cummings, escaped yesterday afternoon from the Lincoln highway convict con-vict camp at Johnson's pass, near St. John, was shot through the body at 10 o'clock this morning at Dolomite by D. M. Adamson, sheriff of Tooele county. Mr. Adamson. who was accompanied by George Storrs, warden at the state prison, ordered the fugitives to halt. They refused, and the shooting followed. Cummings was still at large late tonight. He is said to be surrounded in a canyon can-yon near Grantsville and it is believed he will be taken in the morning. Ketchum was struck In tho back by a bullet, the leaden pellet emerging from his sido. Ho was taken to a Salt Lake hospital. The men escaped from the camp upon two mules with which they had been working. The fled up Skull valley and upon reaching the Deseret livestock ranch abandoned the mules and commandeered com-mandeered two horses. The posses continued in close pursuit until they were intercepted at Dolomite. Ketchum was sentenced from Salt Lake for burglary. He was serving a six months' sentence. Cummings, who is 18 years of age, was setving a sentence for grand larceny He was sentenced from Provo. |
