Show SIXTEENTH WARD IS DEBATE WINNER "Popular Election of Presidents' ' Is Question Threshed Out "by M. I. A. Representatives. The final competitive debate of the Suit I-ake Mutual Improvement association associa-tion teams of Salt I-ake stake of the Mormon church was won by the Sixteenth Six-teenth ward representatives. This team, whidi hart the negative of the question. 'Resolved, that the president should be elected by direct vote of the people." was composed of Hvruni Selander and Emma Nelson. The opposing tri-m of Center ward was Hannah Hollingworth ar.d Lanra Hazrn. Five hundred persons attended tho debate, de-bate, held at the Sixteenth ward ehnpel and presided over by Wilt'ord A. Beesley. Vocal solos were given by Kvangellne Thomas. John Robinson and Miss Steila hum'. Instrumental music was rendered by Mrs. O. H. Stewart, piano; Miss 0;ith- j erine Stewart, violin, and Miss Virginia I Stewart, cello. I Judges were George J. Armstrong", AY. i H. Folland and "William E. Rydalch. Ref- erees were Kishop Albert J. lavis of j Tenter ward and William J. Yard of the Six teen tti wnrd. George J. Cannon v. as master of ceremonies. Hoy Scouts were present in uniform and American flags and bunting formed the decorations. |
