Show LA FOLLETTE CONDEMNED. The. Wisconsin state penate has not taken the advice of party leaders who endeavored to place the Badger state in a false position by keeping silent, as regards the war at.ti'noo of Senator Robert. M. I Foliefcte. The Wip.-onsin senate is controlled by he Kepnblicijns, hut not RepubljraiiM of the. same stripe as "Battle. Lioh, " with whom iby have nothing in common so far a? the war v.itb Germany id -our.iTiirrl. The ttate penatois could not so how party bar-nionv bar-nionv v.as t'i be se.;u e. by the po'icy of fil'-ii'i chile the i.auk and fib; bad exhibited ex-hibited their pat riot i-uit in an tinrnis takahlo. rnaiiiier and cxpre ,-i, their dui-t dui-t rust of La. 1'olh-tte in the f.trongef.t ternic. With the.,- thing in mind, the senate adopted the following resolution, by a vote of twenty-six to three: "The people of the state of Wisconsin Wiscon-sin always have stood and always will stand squarely behiud the present war to a successful end. We condemn Senator Sen-ator Robert M. La Follette and all others oth-ers who have failed to see the righteousness right-eousness of onr nation '3 cause and have failed to support our government in matters vital to the winning of the war. And we denounce any attiuide or utterance ut-terance of theirs which has tended to incite sedition among the people of our country and to injure Wisconsin's fair name before the free peoples of the earth." The action of the state senate sets Wisconsin right before the world. It does not mean that the members of the law-making body have gone over to the Democratic camp, but that as patriotic pa-triotic Republicans they will support President Wilson in his prosecution of the war to a successful end. it also means that the Democrats of Wisconsin have lost their campaign thunder for the coming senatorial election, when a successor to the "late Senator Husting will be chosen. Wisconsii Republicans cannot be called unpatriotic after the adoption of the resoKitio"i condemning La Follette. |
