Show SCABIES PREVALENT IN KELTON DISTRICT Federal Official Takes Prompt Measures Mea-sures to Prevent the Sproad of Disease in Big Herds. Scabies among sheep near Kelton Is much more serious than at first thought to be, it was reported yesterday by Dr. F. E. Murray, in charge of the local office of the United States bureau of animal industry. . Dr. Murray says that one of toe inspectors in-spectors sent out. to Kelton last week returned yesterday and reported to him that what was thought to have been a small outbreak of scabies lins turned out to be a widespread infection among flocks in that vicinity. The Inspector reported re-ported that about SO, 000 sheep are exposed ex-posed to infection through prealence of the disease In various districts of the Kelton region. He says that all herds found to have Infected animals have been placed under federal quarantine and special spe-cial dipping is to begin this week. Kelton Is a big sheep center, where owners of large herds which range in western Boxelder county have headquarters. headquar-ters. On this account an outbreak of scabies in that region is considered 'serious 'seri-ous and is usually subjected to vigorous treatment. Dr. Murray hopes that the prompt measures Uken by his department will have the effect of soon curbing spread of the disease and save loss to flockmaBteri |
