Show SATURATEDWiTH OIL Equipment Will Be Sent Into Field as Soon as Possible. After a month's ramble in the wilds of the San Rafael country. F. W. Moore, consulting engineer of the Utnh-Wyo-ming Oil company, ix-turned yesterday firmly convinced that the highest saturated sat-urated oil sand deposits In the world are to be found in the San Rafael region. Mr. Moore has been making a detailed incestieation of the oil Mind fields, giving giv-ing particular attention tn the engineering engineer-ing features and the work necessary to get ting machinery into the district and the oil out. The sand deposits, he declared, de-clared, reminded him of the Grand canyon can-yon t hey were so big as to defy description. de-scription. "The possibilities in connection with the development of the oil resources of , the San Rafael are practically unlimited," s:id Mr. Moore hist night. When the field is once opened up I believe it will mean the inauguration of the. biggest industry in-dustry of which I'tah can boast. From al! information T have been nblo to gain I am satiric.! that the oil sand deposits of the San Rafael are the most extensive in the world. The outcropping extend 1 practically all the way from Greenriver . to Manti, but those in the vicinity of Lund's End, along the red cliffs over- i looking the Colorado river, appear to be far (he richest and most extensive. 1 "We have begun prelim inai v pre: ara- ! tions looking to the construction ot an entirely new road from Greenriver into : the field, which will mean a lessening ! of the distance by about thirty miles, j Over the road now in use the distance is i approximately 110 miles, j "If the road is not completed by the ! time we are ready to move the machinery i into the district it is probable that the i equipment will be sent down the Green ! river by boat and transported into the , oil sand region by team. If we should j i use the old read it would be necessary to build tramways to move 1 he rnachin-1 rnachin-1 erv across some of the gorges. Perma-; Perma-; nent camps are being e -ua i dished along the route for the accommodation of travelers trav-elers going into the country. "There are two big layers of oil sands ; exposed in the big reefs. The upper ! layer shows an average thickness of about 375 feet and tests indicate that it carries the lighter oils with a paraf fine base. The lower stratum, which is sep-aiated sep-aiated from the upper by a layer of sandstone, is on an average about thirty feet thick and carries the heavier oils of an asphalt base. "The different strata nro plainly discernible dis-cernible at a distance. Even though the temperature was low while we were in the field, we could note from day to day the progress of oil seeps along the cliffs in the vicinity of the camp. 1 was told by those who were familiar with the region that the seeps aie much more extensive ex-tensive during the warm weather and that big pools are formed at various points along the base of the cliffs.
