Fossil Field Notes f If one should ask you what Is going on in the Fossil field it would be hard to answer off-hand and do it truthfully, as each dav brings new men and new ideas into the field, and the great secrecy which surrounds oil work in new fields i manifest, and sometimes you do not know what is doing until it Is done. But it is known that quite a number o rigs are already in the field and others are past due in arrival. After having drilled two wells in section sec-tion 14. on the southeast and northwest quarter, the Idaho-Wyoming company has moved its Armstrong rig to the northeast north-east quarter of the same section for a third well. This same company also has a Standard Stand-ard rig in the field, which will drill on the southeast quarter of section 27. A Keystone rig arrived yesterday at Fossil for the Fossil Petroleum company com-pany and wil be installed on the southeast south-east quarter of section 22. A National rig has also arrived for the Hecla-Wyoming company, which will be placed on the southwest quarter of section sec-tion 11, leased from the Wood Oil & Development De-velopment company. The Pyramid rig has been placed on the northwest quarter of section 23. the section upon which litigation is centered. The Wood Q11.& Development company is now operating its large Star rig on the southwest quarter of section 14, and the oil is now standing seven feet deep in t lie well, reported by drillers. Charles Lackey has taken a contract to drill ten wells for the Lincoln Petroleum Petrol-eum company, which work will be done or. the east half of section 11. one of tin most favored sections. This rig will stand close to the railroad track. The Eldorado Oil & Refining company is busy getting everything in order to receive its drilling equipment, the arrival of which Is now overdue, and whib will (.rill on the northeast quarter of section 27. Field Manager A. C. Cronin has been active in getting coal on the ground and contracts have been let for build in as to take care of the employees, while a bridge is being built over the pulley on section 22 to allow for shortening t ho distance of transportation between Fossil and the camp. It is understood that J. E. Sodderholm and associates have two rigs on the way, the first of which will be put to work on the northeast quarter of section 23. Selection Se-lection of a drilling site for the other has not been made. Eugene McCarty and R. E. En'gsins have entered into a lease for the northeast north-east quarter of section 35 and the northwest north-west quarter of section 15, and have contracted con-tracted to have a rig in transit within thirty days. These same people have also leased section township 2t. range 117. under contract to have a rig in the field by May 1, and will commence improvement improve-ment of the ground within thirty days. The entire field is now covered with a good coat of snow, which has covered the formations which h3ve been so interesting, in-teresting, and new mm in the field will now have to be s: t isfied with reports or wait for the return of spring. The roads are passable over the hill from Kemmerer with rigs, but auios are now out of the question. |
