Show HENRY CLAY'S WORK SUBJECT OF SPEECH Dr. Elmer L Goshen Reviews Statesman's States-man's Activities in Behalf of the Nation, 1 The, first of a series of programmes in memorv of great American statesmen which have been arranged by Dr. Elmer I. Goshen for the month of February was given yesterday morning. The subject sub-ject was Henry Clay. Dr. Goshen sketched the life of Clay from his career in the Kentucky legislature, legis-lature, through the period of the Missouri compromise and the tariff reform. He pointed out the parallel between the -situation found to exist in the war of 1812, at the time of the retreat of Napoleon from Moscow and the consequent release of English; troops, and the present situation sit-uation that exists by reason of the withdrawal with-drawal of Russian ti-oops from the north German frontier. Mr. Goshen spoke of the work of Clay as a politician and a framer of bills and pointed out his contribution to the formation forma-tion of American ideas and ideals. An address on Abraham Lincoln has been arranged for next Sunday. February Febru-ary 17 will be devoted to Daniel Wefester and February 24 to Benjamin Franklin. The services will begin promptly at 11 o'clock and will last one hour. |
