Show SAYS POULTRY MUST SAVE MEAT SUPPLY Agricultural College Expert Advises All Families Possible to Raise Some ' Chickens. Only by an increase in poultry and eggs can a real increase in our meat supply for table consumption be made this year, declares H. W. Sanborn of the extension division of the. Utah Agricultural college, poultry specialist for Utah and Colorado. "The truth of this statement Is apparent ap-parent when we consider conditions," says Mr. Sanborn. "In order to increase our breeding stock of other meat-producing animals to obtain a greater meat supply, we must decrease the number of theso animals killed. Last year we killed not only our increase, but part of our original herds. Now, with fewer anl-. anl-. mais, the problem Is to secure an even greater increase. The only way to do it is to decrease the number slaughtered. We must look to poultry to supply us with meat. Poultry meat is quickly produced, the eggs form an excellent meat substitute, and nearly everyone can keep a few chfekens. That is why the government is so highly emphasizing the necessity of greater poultry and egg production." |
