Show PJ Ml DRIP! SHOWS IMPROVEMENT Substantial Values, Gold and Silver, Appearing in Copper District. Special to The Tribune. I.UNIXG. New, .March 10. The most interesting piece of development in progress prog-ress at tlie Cnlavada mine at this time is the southeast drift on the lOnO-foot level, which is showing steady improvement improve-ment as it is advanced. In addition to the high-grade copper content which distinguishes dis-tinguishes so much of the Calavada ores, substantial values in gold and silver are found in this drift. A picked sample recently re-cently assayed gave returns of S5.(i ounces in silver and $1.50 gold lo the ton. The sulphides are still leached, with bunches of chalcopyrite scattered through. There has been no change in the northwest north-west drift on this same level, which is following an oxidized vein between lime and monzonlte. and occasionally showing show-ing a little copper carbonate. The winze which is being sunk from the northwest drift reached the lU00-foot point on the first of the month, and has just passed the footwall of a large fault zone, on the eide of which Is a vein carrying car-rying considerable sulphide. some of which Is chalcopyrite. It has not yet been assayed for other metals, and its particular importance is in indicating that the zone of permanent sulphide Is not far below in the ore channels which are open and leach more readily. The winze is not on 'an ore shoot, though there Is an important one about loo feet to the north, and the bottom is now in veLlow-ish veLlow-ish lime. A station will be cut "on the IL'OO-level, after which sinking will be resumed to the 1300. President Todd of tho Lunlng-Idaho company has just finished his report for 1S17, and printed copies, together with a map showing ihe work on tho central portion of the propertv, have been sent to stockholders. Of the underground development de-velopment work shown on the map, 1241 feet has been done since the la-st report. The Hahn tunnel has been extended 340 feet and laterals from it aggregate over 200 feet. This tunnel has already been run 200 feet further than was thought would be necessary (from surface Indications! Indi-cations! to reach contact with the granite, gran-ite, where a large body of ore was expected. ex-pected. This work is encouraging to the management, as proving a greater width to the zone than was figured on originally. origi-nally. The report further shows that 143 feet ot development was done in Stockham tunnel No. 1, and laterals, most of it in oxide ore and in places showing stringers string-ers of rich sulphide ore where It had been protected from the leaching process One of them, about eight inches wide, assayed as-sayed $1.20 gold, $3.7S silver and 21. S per cent copper, a total value of 5136.06 per ton. Stockham tunnel No. 2 is now beln run to reach this body of ore at 122 feel greater depth, which is expected to be sufficiently deep to be below the action of the elements and leaching. On the easterly . end of the map is shown the Jones cut, where high-grade ore was discovered, some of it assaying 6S2.2 ounces silver, ,4S ounco gold "and 6.1 per cent copper to the ton. This vein is narrow and very flat, and is located about 2000 feet east of the main workings. |
