Show BIFF SCHALLER NOT TO PLAY THIS YEAR Special to The Tribune. FRESNO. Cal.. March 10. Everybody here welcomed more rain today except the skipper of the Seais. The farmers who came splashing to town in their automobiles automo-biles to spend their surplus money over Sunday were tickled to death, and one must admit there were quite a number of the Seals who also welcomed the chance , to take ft lay orf, because il save them i an opportunity to rub down tiie sore spots j and nurse lame arms and legs following j the severe drubbing given the San Francisco Fran-cisco aggregation by the notorious Sun ' Maids of this place yesterday, when the big leaguers were held to a goose egg score while the farmers tore off four runs just easy. There is one consolation for Boss Jerry Downs, however, in the fact that he got a fine line on a number of his youths that will enable him to use them to the best of advantage in training. The most seriods blow recently is the announcement that Biff Schaller has finally decided to forego baseball for this vear and keep up his work for the government gov-ernment at a San Francisco shipbuilding plant. Schaller will be sorely missed. Spider Baum will also be delayed a few davs more bv his work on t.ie exemption board, but he says a. week's training will be all he needs, and the old war horse ought to know. |
