E. Carlton of Colorado Springs, leader of the group of Colorado financiers who bought the Colorado Midland railroad rail-road at auction a few weeks ago to save it from the scrapheap, made his first visit to Salt Lake yesterday in the interests of the newly-acquired property. The chief purpose of the visit was a conference with Colonel D. C. Jackling, vice president of the Utah Copper company, com-pany, a concern in which some of his principal associates in the railroad transaction trans-action are heavy stockholders and officers. of-ficers. While in the city Mr. Carlton also took occasion to call upon Bishop C. W. Nibley and to confer with J. H. Davis, general agent of the Colorado Midland. Mid-land. t Not Made Public. The purpose of the conference with Colonel Jackling was not made public, nor was the result. As to probable construction con-struction work to be undertaken, Mr. Carlton asserted that the reorganization and rehabilitation of the road must be completed before any new work could be seriously considered. While there was no official announcement announce-ment of the reorganization plans, it was ascertained that the official roster, when the new owners take over the property in a few days, will show an entirely new set of executive officers andj but few changes in other departments. The name of G. W. Vallery, receiver and former president of the road, will be omitted, and successors have been selected to the heads of the passenger and machinery departments. . In all probability the new roster will be as follows: Probable New Roster, Spencer Penrose, chairman of the board of directors; A. B. Carlton, president; C. M. MacNeil, first vice president; W. R. Freeman, second vice president; J. J. Cogan, general manager; L. A. Rafert, general freight agent; F. T. Matthews, general passenger agent; W. S. Wing, auditor; au-ditor; H. L. Hobbs, treasurer; Lester G. Carlton, secretary; M. L. Phelps, general superintendent; C. A. McCarthy, superintendent super-intendent of machinery; C, M. Davids, purchasing agent; G. Lu Linney, car accountant. ac-countant. Mr. Penrose, Mr. MacNeil and Mr. Freeman Free-man were associated with Mr. Carlton in the purchase of the road. Mr. MacNeil also is president of the Utah Copper company com-pany and Mr. Penrose is a director and heavy stockholder in the company. Mr. Cogan is now general manager of the Colorado Springs & Cripple Creek railroad and Mr. Matthews is general passenger agent. Mr. Carlton was accompanied to Salt Lake by Mr. Jlafert. Mr. Carlton left yesterday afternoon for Grand Junction and Mr. Rafert expects to leave today. |
