The Salt Lake Rotary club went on record yesterday as opposed to the state usurping the privilege of Die federal government gov-ernment in Imposing the income tax and indorsed the purpose of the congress of slates to consider federal and state taxation tax-ation as expressed In the senate joint resolution No. 9 of the Inst legislature urging upon congress and' the legislature of the several states the need of holding a congress of the states to consider the subject of federal and state sources of , revenue, with the object of adopting and J urging upon the congress of the United j Sta tes a definite policy in the segrega- tion of stfite and federnl revenue. The resolution was introduced hy P, C. Schramm and William Halley and W. N. Beatty of this city wore commissioned as representatives of the Rotary club to extend to the National Tax association, at Atlanta, Ga-, November 13, and also to the congress of stales, at the same time, an invitation to hold their convention conven-tion for 1 01 S in Salt Ia kt The luncheon yesterday was presided over by Lester D. Fieed. a past president of the organization, who entertained the members with one of his humorous speeches. Brief addresses were made by-Cap by-Cap tain Stern, quartermaster's department, depart-ment, Fort Douglas, and by H. W. Mc-Abee. Mc-Abee. superintendent of the dining car service on the Denver & Rio Grande railroad. rail-road. Mr. Schramm informed the members that he visited and met with the Rotary club in Xew York, where he was cordially cor-dially receiver, and found that a large number of the members were plannincv ! to attend Die convention of Rotary clubs j In Salt Lake in I91t. He also told" of the 1 oval ion given to Pred Grant Redman, member of the Salt Lake club, at the I New York meeting, when it was an- I nounced that Mr. Redman was on his way I to France to join the American ambulance ! corps. ! At the next meeting of the club the j amendment increasing the membership ! fee from $10 to $25 will be voted upon. I |
