A communication in the nature of an ultimatum regarding the labor situation at the Walertown arsenal was sent to the war department today after a meeting of agents of the building build-ing trades councils of this city. The arsenal strike was called off by the agents recently after Secretary of War Baker had promised, according to their statement, that lie would send a representative repre-sentative here "to adjust the situation to the satisfaction of the men." The agents, who represent mechanics employed in government and private shipbuilding yards of this city. Providence. Provi-dence. Quincy and other sections of New England, as well as the Watertown arsenal, ar-senal, say that tney have heard nothing further from Mr. Baker. They voted today to give notice that unless they received, re-ceived, by 10 o'clock tomorrow morning, definite assurance from the war department depart-ment of a speedy adjustment of "open shop" grievances' they would not hold themselves "responsible any longer for whatever may follow." |
