A large percentage of state officials and employees found themselves snowbound snow-bound yesterday, a nd as a rcsul t were unable to get to the state capitol in the morning. Some of them did not get there at ail and the building was but sparsely populated during the day. Those who did succeed in getting to work did eo only by walking, for there was no car service from town to the capitol cap-itol during the day. It was impossible for the cars to successfully buck the drifting drift-ing snows and the heaw grade up the hill. Those who did get to work remained In the capitol all day without attempting to get out at the noon hour. Even the officials who own automobiles were unable to get their machines up the steep grade to the capitol. and were forced to climb the hill od foot. This was found to be no easy task, for the sidewalks were banked with snow and the trails were narrow and uncertain. Men and teams were put to work about the capitol early in the morning clearing paths to get into the building, and they were kept busy all day keeping the paths cleared from the falling and drifting snow. |
