Show RED IS OUT WITH : 1916 llOiCEMENl , Company Reduces Prices of All Models for Com- ing Season. Just hp '-Priam pvpnts in the. finan,ia and rportirj(( world have comfl to liw lookprj upon as indicating the trnd of things for th coming vrar, po the annual an-nual annoijncempntB of thp H;o Motor Car company are consid'-rfd bv experienced experi-enced motorists and those in the automobile auto-mobile traJe. One reason for this is undoubtedly th fnft that the Reo company invariably invar-iably makes its announcements in fiep- tember, whereas others are usoally mad in June. The other reason is the enviable po-) po-) sit ion the Reo occupies in the industry; its stability (one of the strongest financially) fi-nancially) and the fact that Reo values, as announced from time to time, go a long wav toward setting the standards. stand-ards. Thi year, perhaps more than ever before, motorists have looked forward to the Reo announcement and there has i been considerable discussion ae to i whether this conservative concern would ( announce any radically new models or would stick to types of ars that hav become recognized as standard. Few iD r h trade expected Reo to join the radicals. Reo success, based on what might be termed ultra-conservatism, bad been so remarkable that few expected any departure from the ( beaten course. The unexpected has happened. The Reo announcement, made throughout the t'niled States this Sunday, will undoubtedly un-doubtedly create a tremendous sensation, sensa-tion, but it will not be because of radically radi-cally new features in the two models. The sensation is found in the unexpectedly unex-pectedly low priiie for next year 's : rEeos, coupled with the man if est improvements im-provements and refinements in both of ; ihem. ( ! To predict which of the two Reo l models will be the leader for the com-: com-: in year would be impossible. Last year there was no "leader" in the Reo line. The two models, the famous Reo the Fifth, and the R-eo Six seemed to run neck and neck, i From the outside it might have I looked as if the six had a Tittle lead 1 j because the output of that model was sold August 1. while the Reo the Fifth : continued to August 20. That did not, ! however, indicate a greater relative de- mand than for the four. Tt simply i ; proved that the company very greatly I underestimated the demand ' for the I six," while feeling confident of that for Reo the Fifth, "'the incomparable four, ' ' which is now the oldest four-cylinder four-cylinder car in Ameriea. Reo the Fifth has been made in essentially es-sentially the same form for five years. That it has survived the onslaught on-slaught of radicalism and experimentation, experimenta-tion, and one new model after another, is ;he best evidence of its quality. Last Sunday the Reo company made one of the most remarkable announcements announce-ments which has ever been made by anv manufacturer. That was to the effect that "today there isn't a new Reo au- tomobile of" anv model for sale in the world." At the .time this announcement announce-ment is made the status is still the same, although deliveries of dealers ' demonstrators demon-strators will commence in the next few days. After reading the descriptions and specifications of the two new models, and cqnsidericg the price, one is forced to the conclusion that those who want Reos next year will "have to hurry."' The new "Reo six is a strikingly beautiful beau-tiful car. Tt is one of the o'est examples ex-amples of the internationally popular "sneer-line" type, and the R-en designers design-ers have caught the spirit and developed fhi? graceful type of body to a remark-ab!'"1 remark-ab!'"1 decree. Xotable among the improvements this year is the longer wheel base (136 inches), which makes it a full seven -pasrger car. where it was formerly five: increase of tire size to inches; moi-r.ting of instruments on the steer ing pot. instead of on the cowl board, where 'hey formerly were ; the change from r;orm to t-hain drive in the electric elec-tric starter : divided front seats heretofore here-tofore a feature in cars of high price, and. finally, the thief-proof locking device, de-vice, which will bring joy to the heart of every motorist. There have been innumerable attempts and countless patents pat-ents issqed upon devices for locking an automobile so it could not be driven awav by anv other than its owner. None of them, so far as we know, has been a puccess. On account of the unique Reo con- , trol system, the Reo engineers have found it possible to trebly lock the car. In other words, bv oue' operation the transmission is locked in neutral poJ tion: the electric starter is locked so It is inoperative, and floor boards are locked down so that tbp parts cannot be gotten at. This same feature is in Reo the Fifth, as are also several of the improvements, such as instruments on the steering post; new tire holder; improved starting device, de-vice, and others. The sam distinctive Reo radiator, with the gracefully curved visor, has been retained, but this year the el hilar section is black instead of alum-iuni alum-iuni colored, as formerly, and is much more distinctie and in tune with the times as are all other features of both models. |
