Show Insane Chinese Spends Most of lime in Sleep He Also Shows Up Camels When It Comes to Use of Water. Special to The Tribune, OODEX, Sept. 11. Curled up on a cot in the padded cell of the count' jail is a prisoner, or rather an unwelcome un-welcome pruest. He is Ye Wing Yeck, a demented Chinaman, who has been adjudged insane. Sheriff T. A. De-Vine De-Vine has as yet devised no means whereby he can be transported to the state mental hospital without carrying the man. Yeck. who seems to be quite harmless, harm-less, came 'to the county .tail several weeks ago. He apparently was demented dement-ed and was examined and adjudged insane. in-sane. Even before his examination the Chinaman displayed signs of stupor or of being overcome by sleep, and now he puts in about twenty-three hours out of every twenty-four apparently fast asleep. . Usually he . has his arms clasped tightly over his head. When he first made his appearance at the jail he refused food from any .of the officers or employees, but later accepted a little food every night from Night Jailer Oren Hadlock. None of the officers, including Deputy Hadlock, Had-lock, has seen Yeck drink a drop of water since his stay at the jail, although al-though the fact that he still lives is proof that he drinks when none is looking. The case, according to Sheriff Sher-iff DeVine. Is the strangest in his career ca-reer as an officer. |
