Show THANKS AMERICANS FOR HOSPITAL WORK French Embassador to United States Reviews Friendly Relationship of Two Republics. CHADDS FORD, Pa., Sept. 11. Jean J. Jusserand, the French embassador to the United States, expressed the appreciation appre-ciation of his country for the work done by Americans iu establishing and maintaining hospital and ambulance service in France during the present war, in an address delivered today at the 138th anniversary of the battle of Brandywine. Sixteen tablets were unveiled un-veiled in this vicinity marking the progress of that battle, which led up to the occupation of Philadelphia by tbe British. Embassador Jusserand reviewed tbe friendly relationship of France to this country as a result of the active part taken in the war of the Revolution by Lafayette. He declared that the service rendered by Americans in France during dur-ing the present war bad won the everlasting ever-lasting regard of the French people. President Wilson, who had been invited in-vited to participate in the exercises, sent a letter of regret, in which he said: I should have greatly enjoyed the opportunity to say how thoroughly thor-oughly worth while it seems to mc to do things of that sort and to keep bright aud definite in the minds of the people of the country the events, both great and small, of that great period when the nation na-tion was brought into being by the sacrifice and heroism of men whose example it is our privilege and duty to follow. |
