Show CAMPAIGN RUMORS j LACK FOUNDATION. Ferry and Morris Seem to Be Only Serious Candidates. Rumors that "dark horses'' were being be-ing groomed for the mayoralty derby were prevalent yesterday, but none of ihe rumor-mongers were able to offer even a guess as to the identity of the possible added starters. Thus far W. Mont Fern' and Richard P. Morris have the clover patch to themselves, if one eliminates the Socialist So-cialist candidate for mayor. "While it is not unlikely that ouc or two others ma- enter the race, scarcely a man who has been suggested for the office, other than these two, has given his supporters anv encouragement. It is now considered con-sidered quite possible that there may be no others in the race. This would result iu the primary election being merel' a trial heat for warming up purposes, so far as the mayoralty is concerned. Several persons are already out for the two eommissiouerships and several more plan to get out, but none seems anxious to try for mayor. For commissioners commis-sioners "freak"" candidates, that is, candidates whom no one figures in the race save the candidates themselves, are to be expected in a fairly large number. However, there are not a great many really counted as in the running vet announced, i W. Mo'ut Ferry, candidate for mayor, will open headquarters in a day or two in the Wilson hotel. Several committees commit-tees to have charge of his organization will be named soon. Richard P. Morris, Mor-ris, his rival candidate for mayor, will also have downtown headquarters. Thus far the most active campaign for any -city office is being made by Henry K. Russell, labor candidate for commissioner. Mr. Russell has an extensive ex-tensive organization in all sections of the city, and considerable work in his behalf is being done. The organization organiza-tion of the Central Russell club, composed com-posed of the women workers of the Russell campaign has been completed, and it will meet Friday evening at the home of Mrs. 0. B. Patterson, 248 South Second West street. |
