Several Youngsters Already Snared for Portland Club of 1916; Recruits Will ,' Be Recalled. Special to The Tribune. PORTLAND, Ore., Aug. 14. With his dream of another pennant gone, Walter McCredie, manager man-ager of the Portland Beavers, has returned home to lay plans for the building of his 1916 club. After his club had dropped the series to the Vernon Tigers McCredie announced an-nounced that he did not see any- chance of tho Beavers winning the championship. champion-ship. This was followed by the announcement an-nouncement that he had signed a trio of college stars and that two Los Angeles An-geles semi-pros would be signed. One of the first things McCredie will do is to arrange for the recalling of Players Callahan, Brenegan, Murphy and Coltrin from the Spokane club of the Northwestern league. Byler, a college col-lege catcher, who was sent to the Aberdeen Aber-deen club, will be recalled by the Portland Port-land boss. One of the college stars signed by McCredie is Hartuian. a southpaw twirler of the Washington State college col-lege team, winners of the Northwest Intercollegiate In-tercollegiate title. Hartmau, during his three-year college career, has won more than twenty games and lost but two or three. He is a strike-out artist. The other players are believed to be Pitcher William Williams of Oregon Agricultural college and Infielder Ado Sieberts of the same club. McCredie also announced that he would put in a draft for Shortstop Ward of the Aberdeen team, who is now plaving with the Tacoma club. Fred McKeen. a local semi-pro player, who was signed last week bv Judge McCredie, was given a bit of a try-out try-out during the series with the Tigers. Bobby Davis, the Beaver shortstop, who was injured duly -t. is ready to play again, and it is expected that. McCredie Mc-Credie will shift his line up so na to keep -vouna Hammond in the game. Hammond. 'who has been slugging th ball on the nose, may be. used at first base and Ptumpf will be sent back to second base. Much is expected of Herb Murphy, who was sent, to Spokane last spring. He has been bitting the ball ;n the 3110 class all season, and has been fielding in great style. Coltrin bas been slowed up on account of a broken leg. Pat Callahan, the southpaw twirler. and Catcher Breneean have been doing good work for the Indians both in the field and at the bat. McCredie expects to lose two of his stars this vear.
