Show EASTERfJ INTEREST IIWmiRHSES. McFaul Says That Utah Will Continue to Attract Tourist Travelers. "The prediction that there 'will be a serious slump on the Pacific coast at the eloso of the expositions is, I think, unwarranted. un-warranted. M This was the statomont made yesterday yester-day by 0. L. McFaul, district freight and passenger agent for the Southern Pacifio hore, who returned at 2:10 p. m. from a trip to the coast, during which he and Mrs. McFaul visited the fairs. Mr. MoFaul studied the present business conditions and makes a forecast fore-cast of the business situation as it will be when the ploasure world settles into the every-day round of business affairs and the tourists leave for thoir homes. "It has been said that there will be a perceptible drop in business after the fairs and that tho coast will be left high and dry in a business way, but this is 1 not the case," said Mr. McFaul. "There are many thousands of easterners east-erners on the coast today. True, when the fair is closed they will cease coming com-ing in such numbers, but when they leave for home they will take with them an indelible impression of the great west and a desire to return. It is impossible im-possible to see California in the time usually allotted tourists, and the glimpse that they are receiving is filling them with a desire to come back. And if the opinion of students of business is true many will return next year." In speaking of Salt Lake's part in the great migration to the west Mr. McFaul Mc-Faul said: "I stopped for a few minutes min-utes at the Information bureau window in San Francisco and listenod to the tourists ask questions. Every other one of them made inquiry about Salt Lake and in mot cases arranged for a stopover stop-over here. Salt Lake will be visited by tourists coming and going long into the fall. It is a show place of the inter-mountain inter-mountain west and travelers justly feel that they have not had a complete tnp without a visit to Salt Lake. "Manv stop here on their way west, but the 'time allowed is usually short, and for that reason many more plan to stop over for several days on the trip home." |
