Show WRIT REPLIED TO IN LAWSON CASE DENVER, C0I0.7 Aug. J4. A reply to the request for a writ of supersedeas asked for by attorneys for John R. Lawson, labor leader, ('vinvi-'ted and sentenced sen-tenced to life imprisonment on a charge of first degree murder, was filed by Fred Farrar, attornej' ttinernl. in the supreme court today. Th 4 conviction of Lawson, now in jail at Trinidad, grew out of a battle between striKfirs and mine guards, in which it waa charged Lawson took a leading part. A new trial for Lawson was denied recently by Judge Granby Hillyer, who was recently appointed to serve in the Third district. A writ of prohibition designed to prevent pre-vent Judjre Hillyer (rom presiding at future trials growing out of indufirial disorders also is before the supreme court. Of the mors than 500 indictment! re-bnrnod re-bnrnod against strikers, only a few have been disposed of. A batch of 100 cases in Boulder county is set for hearing August 23. |
