Show FLORENCE SMELTER MAY SOON RESUME Works Have Been Idle for Ten Yeara; ; Boston Capital Behind- j Deal. j Special to The Tribune. CANON CITY, Colo., Aug. H. Early resumption of work at the Rocky Moun- j tain smelter at Florence, idle for the last ten years, is expected as a result of investigations made there by a party consisting of H. H. Vtley of Benver, L. V. Emanuel of Perth Amboy, N. J., and H. V. Croll, expert of tne Taylor Enpineerine & Manufacturing company of Allentown, Pa. Mr. Utley said that they had taken an option on the smelter and hoped to start with 100 men, later increasing the force to 2o0. He said he was backed by a strong company, whose identity ho did not care to divulge. It is unofficially stated, however, that Boston capital is behind the deal and rumors today are that through tho opening of tho smelter the United States Smelting, Refining jt Mining company, which operates in Utah and Mexico," will get a long-sought foothold in Colorado. The United States company com-pany has prospered enormously in the war advance of metal prices, and April 15 paid a dividend of 87v2 cents on its preferred stock. The renting of two residences hy interested in-terested parties is taken as confirmation confirma-tion of the report that the smelter will resume shortly. The plant treatB lead and copper ores and it is said it will be used to work out a new process. If the Utah company hos the plant new competition in the Colorado metal industry will result, which may assume enormous proportions. |
