Show MORE V. S TROOPS ARE ORDERED TO . MEXICAN BORDER WASHINGTON' Aug 14 Late today to-day the war department at the request of Major General Funston ordered one regiment of infantry from Texas City to Brownsville and alBo ordered one aeroplane one battery of 4 7 guns and one battery of 4 7 howitzers to Browns ville from Fort Sill Okla. Major General Bell commanding at Texas City will select the infantry reg iment the commander at Fort Sifi will choose the batteries Although first reports today indicated no more forces Tould be sent to Brownsville later de velopments evidently convinced Gen eral Funston of the need of more protec tiOn for the border line threatened by Mexican raiders. A s stant Secretary Breekenndge said that the new orders were issued because of General Funston s desire that the garrison at Brownsville be strength ened He declared The howitzers hava been sent as they are the best weapons to use against marauders who may be hid ing in the hills because- of their h gh angle fire General Funston feels that there should be a strong er force at Brownsville, where there has been so much difficulty He did not report any new developments |
