Show FLOODS AND STORM 00 DAMAGE I EAST. Seven Dead in New York;' Ohio River Rising; Railroads Rail-roads Held Up. NEW YORK, Feb. 2. Seven deaths were caused, directly or Indirectly, by the storm which swept this city and vicinity last night and today. Traffic was demoralized de-moralized for a time, "but conditions were nearly normal tonight. I Two of the fatalities were due to ex- posure. One man, blinded by snow, i stepped In front of a train and was killed. ; Three men were drowned in the loss of a dredge caught In the blow on Long Island sound, and It is believed a fourth, who drifted away on a raft, also has perished. per-ished. PITTSBL'RG, Feb. 2. The creat of the flood which began descending on this district dis-trict yesterdav was expected to pass the point where the Allegheny and M'limnpa-hela M'limnpa-hela rivers form the Ohio at midnignt tonight. Tnt weather bureau forecast twenty-nine twenty-nine feet at the point at that hour. Karly tonight the gauge there showed twenty-seven twenty-seven feet, with the Allegheny still rising. The low-lying sections of the city along the Allegheny and Onio rivers were inundated inun-dated and "trolley and railroad traffic there was at a standstill. Hundreds of families left their homes bot h here and at points up the Allegheny river. The breaking of a hue Ice gorge at Freeport caused the Allegheny to rise rapidly" today, and much lee flowed out. Many manufacturing plants ' along the three rivers were forced to cease operations opera-tions temporarily. At Martin's Ferry. Ohio, 4000 men were forced to quit work. At Kast Liverpool four potteries and the municipal pumping station were Isolated. Rain ceased falling early today and, the thermometer dropping, caused the weather bureau to express the hope that the flood's crest would not reach thirty feet. i i CHICAGO. Feb. 2.
