Show GEM STATE PLEASED WITH APPOINTMENT New Minister to Siam Is Former Prominent Promi-nent Resident of Idaho; Now in Oregon. WASHINGTON, Feb. 2. William H Hornlbrook of Albany, Ore., has been selected se-lected by President Wilson as minister to Siam. Hornibrook's nomination was sent today to the senate. Special to The Tribune. BOISE, Idaho, Feb. 2. The nomination nomina-tion of William S. Hornlbrook by President Presi-dent Wilson as minister to Siam is looked upon here by Democratic party leaders as an unusual distinction conferred upom a Democrat of the west and one over which Idaho, as well as Oregon, where Mr. ! Hornlbrook now resides, has reason to feel proud. Prior to going to Albany, 1 Ore., to take charge of the Albany Democrat, Demo-crat, Mr, Hornlbrook was engaged in the newspaper business at Twin Falls as owner and editor of the Chronicle, and ; later he practiced law there. At one time Mr. Hornibrook was looked upon in this state as the logical man for chairman of the Democratic state cental committee, but his departure from Idaho prevented acceptance of the position He was president of the Idaho Direct Legislation league and later was elected slate senator from Twin Falls county and served in the eleventh Idaho legislature. He championed and secured the passage of the initiative, referendum and recall re-call bill that session over great opposition. oppo-sition. His plea for confirmation of Isaac C. Hattabaugh as insurance commissioner com-missioner was the stirring event of that session and marked him as one of the coming leaders in his party. He left Idaho two years ago. |
