Show 350,000 TROUT EGGS HATCHED THIS YEAR Utah Has Received More Than Wyoming, Wyo-ming, Montana and Nevada Neva-da Combined. Utah has received more federal assist-a assist-a nee this year in the way of fish eggs from the government hatcheries than the states of Wyoming, Montana and Nevada combined, and the department has no fault to find with the federal authori ties on this score, according to Fred W. Chambers, state fish and game rommissioner. Mr. Chambers says there lias been some comment by uninformed persons regarding the federal issuance of fish to other states and not to Utah. He calls attention to the fact that a total of 350,000 trout eggs have already been received from the government tills year, 9S per cent of which have hatched out in the state hatcheries. Another order of 2,000.000 black spotted mountain trout eggs will be received this month. The fish and game commissioner says that this is much better for Utah than receiving the fish, as the eggs can be hatched as well In state hatcheries as in those operated by the government. Then, too, the other states do not receive re-ceive more than 50,000 or 60,000 fish, and, in addition to paying higher express charges, they must pay the expenses of caretakers on the trip. Of the 350,000 trout eggs received and hatched this year, 250,000 were eastern brook trout, 50.000 Mackinaws and 50,000 steelhead trout. The eastern brook trout were planted in streams of Weber, Cache, Salt Lake, Utah, Summit, Sanpete and Sevier counties. About 40,000 of the Mackinaws have already been planted In Fish lake, and Joe Smith, deputy of the department, will take the remainder this week to Lake Blanche, Twin lakes and Lake Marion. |
