Willard Done, state Insurance commissioner, commis-sioner, returned yesterday from Chicago, whero he says was held tho most Important Import-ant and successful Insurance meeting in the history of tho business In this coun-try. coun-try. Tho meeting was attended by representatives represen-tatives of twenty-one state lnsuranco departments de-partments and about 300 of the ablest Insurance mon from all parts of tho United States, Including company officials offi-cials and agency representatives. Tho gathering was the result of a call iseuod by tho Insurance commissioners of the sates of New York, Utah and Colorado early in November. Some time ago William T. Emmett. superintendent of Insurance In the slate of New York, made a ruling, to become effective last October, automatically cutting cut-ting down the commissions of all liability companies In the United States. There wcro some elements of Injustice In the ruling, if applied to all localities alike, and It was for the purpose of adjusting arising difficulties that tho meeting was called in Chicago for December 1. Mr. Done called tho moetlng to order on that date and Introduced Mr. Emmett us presiding officer, and the sessions were continued day and night for two days. At. first there was considerable antagonism antag-onism exhibited between company officials offi-cials and agents, but in the discussion and notion which followed thoro was a complete" adjustment of all differences, making certain allowances for agents working In sparsely settled territory. Mr. Emmett consented to modify his ruling rul-ing to conform to the conclusions of tho meeting Commissioner Done declares that not only was the meeting a most important one. but it set an example to all big businesses as to the best method of settling set-tling differences and avoiding trouble.. |
