The interclass basketball scries at the Salt Lake high school wa3 oponed yesterday yester-day with a fast game between the freshmen fresh-men five and the Junior class team. Tho gamo resulted in an unexpected j victory for the freshmen by the scoro of 26 to 21. Tho game was played In tho high school gymnasium. The underclassmen sprung one of the biggest surprises by beating tho Juniors as the freshmen have not had nny practice prac-tice and their men wero smalL It Is certain cer-tain that the series will prove to bo one of the best yet played. Each class team has good players. Tho second gamo of the Eerles, between tho sophomores and seniors, sen-iors, will bo played this nftornoon in the high school gymnasium. It wiy start at 3 o'cloclc From present Indications tho game will bo a good one. Tho Bophomores held a fast practice yesterday, while the seniors have been holding nightly practice games. Bill Goodrich Is captain of the seniors, and his playing will mean much to the seniors. "Ray Donkln, who is captain of tho sophomores, Is confldont of a victory vic-tory for tho second-year men. Tho Juniors were a bit unfortunate yes-terdav yes-terdav in not being able to play Wendell Packard. While practicing, Packard was knocked down and his kneo injured again. Richardson hopes to bo a bio to use Packard Pack-ard In the regular games and no risk of having him injured in the class games ivill bo taken. The feature of the game was the manner man-ner in which the freshmen shot their baskets. Jimmy Evans was the particular particu-lar star of the day. Ho mado many long shots that showed much accuracy. Four of Evans's shots were hard. His good work won the admiration of the coach. Earl Andrews, tho freshmen captain, also made somo good 'baskets. His work In all departments was good. Sponcer was guarded very closely by the Juniors, as he Is an accurate shooter. Of tho Juniors, Kenneth Tresedcr, Wllford Leonard and Captain Romney played best.. The lineup: Freshmen. Juniors.
