The Frontier celebration cornmitteo has decided de-cided to extend the annual show two days this year, and has selected August Au-gust 17, IS, .19, 20 and 21 as the dates. The first day of the celebration will be devoted to automobile racing over tho five-mile circular track now boing constructed, con-structed, tho ensuing thrco days to the wuujui.) vnu western sports, witn automobile au-tomobile races interspersed, and the fifth day to tho finals in the wild western west-ern championship contests. In connection with the coming celebration, cele-bration, 0. B. Irwin of this cit. owner ot Old Steamboat, the outlaw horse n over ridden to a finish save by Dick Stanley of Portland, Ore., tho present holder of tho rough riding championship, champion-ship, who accomplished tho feat on a muddy field during tho last Frontier celebration, has offered Stanley $500 if hp will duplicate the ride during the coming celebration on a dry and hard liold. Irwin and all other cowboys who have tackled Old Steamboat, with tho single exception of Stanley, arc of the opinion that the field conditions last year enabled the Portland rider to subduo tho equino warrior, and that no man can rido him to a finish on a hnrd Held, where ho can obtain linn footing. |
