President I I Pulliam of the National league gath- ered his umpires about hiin the other Any. and for four and a half hours he instructed them as to their duties for tho coming season. Rowdyism Rowdy-ism appears to have been the principal topic of tho powwow. President Pulliam Pul-liam is evidently fully determined to put a stop to all such capers, and told his representatives on the field of nlay so very plainly. He instructed them to be wide awake, and to permit no "rough-house" on the diamond, and to sec that pitchers did not rub the balls in the dirt. The matter of players carolessby throwing their bats around was also tbrcshca out, and tho umpires were instructed in-structed to roport all players who were habituall' careless in this matter. |
