Show UTAH COPPER COMPANY MAKES 'COPPKR CHEAPLY The Mining AVorld has a full account of the Utah Copper mills, both at Garfield Gar-field and Copperton, which has created interest in local circles. Regarding tho expense of copper production, the fol lowing excerpt will be read with interest inter-est : "When running rogularh', Iho total cost of milling one ton of crude ore (with J.o to I.S per cout coppor) should not exceed 35 cents. "Wc shall assume a concentration ratio of 2Q to I and a saving of twent3'-one pounds of copper (or about 65 per cent) in the. resulting result-ing 100 pounds of concentrate. With a o per cent smelting loss, thcro will result twont3' pounds of metal, on which the freight to the Kast will be $11 and the refining charge -tlS per ton. The concentrate is not bought outright out-right bv the Garfiold Smelting eompanv. eom-panv. but is treated on toll for about $6 per ton. Wc thus have: Cents. It is true that cost Jiures of (5 or 7 cents per pound have been published, but some of these did not include emergencies, whilo depreciation of plant is a factor which can easih be underestimated. "Tho total cost of tho mill is bo-lioved bo-lioved to bo $4,000,000, of which about $1,000,000 is for the lower plant. Assuming As-suming COOO-horsc power oul.v is used for the mill, then the cost of the mill for its 0000-ton daily capacity is about $o,60Qf0U0, or $000 per ton," |
