Show Life Insurance News The agents of the various life insnr aitco companies operating in Utah with hoadquarters in New York, and hencr; amenable to the restrictions placed on life insurance companies by the laws of that State, especially section 07 of the New York Armstrong laws, havo been grcatlv exercised at what was considered con-sidered unfair interference by the Legislature Leg-islature of New York in the concernw of tho insurance companies here. Ac-tivo Ac-tivo opposition to theso laws was taken bv the Utah Life Underwriters' association associa-tion some weeks ago with the forwarding forward-ing to Governor mighes and the presidents presi-dents of the various New York com-, panics doing business in Utah of a set of resolutions commenting upon tho Armstrong laws. Tho attitude of tho New York companies themselves toward the Armstrong law is voiced in the fol- j lowing reply received recently by the Utah association from the presidents of one of the large New York companies. It; says in pnrt : "Tho law is fundamentally wrong, because it attempts to govern flio domestic do-mestic affairs of insurance companies of other States. It htartcd with the necessity for regulating home companies, compa-nies, aiwl it was unsound legislation to go further, except to provide that companies com-panies of other States doing business in New York must, conform to the requiro- i moot of the New York law respecting ' Netv York business. To say that no company should be qualified for New York unless il should transact jts business busi-ness everywhere according to New York standnrds was an attempt to enact and enforce extra territorial legislation by the hbo of tho arbitrary power of tho Slate to exclude foreign corporations, whether the reasiuiH for doing so were sufficient or not. Until that fundamental infirmity is healed, the New York law will look no better, no matter how manv patches are put. upon it.A" Tfie Utah association of life underwriters under-writers held its nnnual meeting for tho election of officers for the ensuing year Tuesday.
