Judging, from the records of the building inspector's office thero must havo been a decided slump in building in Salt Lake City in tho last wock, but this is not a criterion to go by, for although the building permits ran very light as compared with tho previous week, there was still considerable building build-ing already under way while alterations in plans and other small dotails delayed de-layed several good-sized permits from coming in. But at that, tho week was not such a bad ono. Building permits issued by Building Inspector A. B. Hirth for tho week just ended numbored eleven and called for a total expenditure of $25,-000. $25,-000. Considerable of this was in alterations. alter-ations. One permit was for almost half of this amount, that of Evans & Evans, for a two-story, twelve-room brick flat at 207-200 Fourth avenue, calling for an cxpendituro of $12,000. Tho week's record places tho current month up with the wholo of the corresponding cor-responding month of last year, with one week yet to run. The permits for this January exceeded thoso of January of IPOS by approximately $350,000. With this Fobrnnr' caught up with last February, Feb-ruary, 1000, is now ahead of the first two mouths of last year by this January's Jan-uary's excess in building permitB over last January.
