Show OITY ENGINEER'S REPORT. Tho report of City Enginoor Kelsoy shows a magnificent record for the American administration. In public improvements tho past year was exceeded ex-ceeded only by tho great record of 1007, the aggregate expenditures on this account ac-count for 190S being -$871,682, while those of 1007 wcro $1,207,160. Tho American party began its improving or tho city in 1006, so that the past year was tho third of this work by the municipal mu-nicipal administration of that party. Undoubtedly it was a mistake to put in macadam streot paving, but some property owners petitioned for it and would have nothing noth-ing else. It is probable thnt tho best thing that could bo done with those macadamized streets would bo to givo them a good, heavy covering of as-phaltum. as-phaltum. The City Engineer makes many recommendations, rec-ommendations, notably one rovivingthe project for a big Tcscrvoir up in tho forks of Parley's can3'on. This project was, after full examination, pronounced pro-nounced perfectly feasiblo some years ago, and some preparatory steps wero taken toward putting it in: duc tno project was shelved in favor of tho Big Cottonwood scheme. But this Par-ley's Par-ley's canyon reservoir is certain eventually event-ually to be ono of the great water ro-sources ro-sources of the cit3. Somo of tho other noteworthy recommendations recom-mendations of Mr. Kelsey arc for a considerable reservoir in City Creek canyon, one east of Mount Olivet cemetery, ceme-tery, for a storm-sewer system, for mains and more hydrants in the business busi-ness district for rc protection, for connection of dearf onds of pipes, and for many other details in betterment of tho service. Tho report conveys in conciso form a vast deal of important information, and to read it is to get a better and a growing appreciation of the greatness of Salt Lake City, and of tho benefits conferred upon the inhabitants therein by the enlightened, progressive admin-istrations admin-istrations given them by the American party. |
