Just how long the circuit horses will j be provided for at Readvllle this summer sum-mer cannot be stated at this time, for the reason that there Is considerable doubt as to whether Long Branch will take dates allotod at the stewards' meeting meet-ing last month. Should the Now Jorsoy track fall down. Readvllle will take the entire week between Poughkeepsle and Hartford. August 30 to September . In its meeting, an arrangement will be the event of Long Branch going on with made with the Connecticut state fair so that Readvllle can have tho latter portion por-tion of Hartford's week. Handicap racing will be the feature under the new arrangement. If the meeting Is confined to a couple of days, handicaps and the Amerfcan Horse Breeders' three futurity races will constitute con-stitute the programme. Welch, however, Is already planning on a week, for he has no faith in the ability of the people Interested at Long Branch to secure the required financial backing. That Andy Welch Is to get Readvllle means a lot more than the mere fact that Boston's only race course Is to be saved to the sport. It means that tho most beautifully located track In Americaand Amer-icaand about the most Inviting lnslcle Is to become a garden spot such as Charter Oak Is and Oakley was. Welch Is a lover of the beautiful, and a landscape land-scape gardener will get a contract, as will a builder for the new fireproof stand. |
