Show MARSHALL BROTHERS ill THEIR CHECKS Got the Forgery Habit After They Found How Easy It Was. It has developed that Jeff, and Hon. Marshall, the brothors who were held for forgery by Judgo DIehl on Friday, arc well known In and around tho town of Doscret, where they have spent most of tholr lives. Their mother is a prominent promi-nent physician of the town, though her name is not Marshall. An attorney of this city left for Deseret on a lalo train Saturday night to consult with the woman wo-man doctor as to the best method to be adopted to get her sons out of tho trouble trou-ble they Ilnd themselves In. There was never a more unsophisticated unsophisti-cated braco of wrongdoers thau the Marshall brothers, and this adds to tho wonder that they could have carried their bungling work of forgery so far without landing themselves In Jail. They toll tho story themselves In their simple, sheep-herder sheep-herder way. I It seems that tho brothers came to Salt Lake from Deseret to see tho town. Thoy spent all the ready money they had brought with thorn, and at the suggestion sug-gestion of a companion wrote a chock and had It cashed. It was a new movo with tho young fellows, who were unusod to city ways, and thoy wore surprised that the money came so easy. When tho proceeds of this first chock had been exhausted thoy wrote another, and so ou till they got the check-writing habit. In all probability they would havo kept it up until the Christmas holidays if the rude scrawls on their checks hadn't at last excited the suspicion of a cashlor of one of the banks on which they wero drawn. Then Detectlvo Wheeling got busy and Ihe arrest of the Deseret bloods Immediately followed. A strong effort will be made to get them out of Jail onthe showing that they "didn't mean It." |
