Show PARTY LINES ARE GOO IDAHO Men Who Were Formerly Leading Lead-ing Republicans Are Joined With Democrats Now. MENACE-OP-M0RM0NISM HAS CHANGED SITUATION Campaign Opens at Weiser in Manner That Dnrmis Salt Lake Hierarchy. Special io The Tribune. WEISER, Ida., Sept. 1. The first political po-litical meeting of the campaign was held in this city last evening under the auspices of tho Democrats. Tho subject sub-ject was "Mormonism and its Menaces," Men-aces," T peculiarity of the meeting meet-ing was that the leading speakers were Republicans who are working with the Democrats to down tho hierarchy in .this- State. One of the speakers was Rev. E. A. Paddock of the Idaho Industrial Institute, In-stitute, a life-long Republican aud one of the best orators in tho State. Prof. A. C. Carlson, superintendent of the Weiser public schools, also Republican, spoke. Mr. Carlson was for many yearB superintendent su-perintendent of the public schoolB of Eureka, Utah, and other points in tho State. lie spoke on Mormonism from his personal experience, and referred to the subject of polygamy and citod numerous cases with which ho was personally per-sonally familiar. Both of the speakers stated they were Republicans, but in the issues now before the people tho Democrats nre in the right and adviaod all Republicans to join the Democrats in ridding tho Stato of the Mormon octopus that was seeking to control the politics of tho Stnte by collusion and combines with tho Republican party of the State. The large opera-houso was crowded and many persons wore unable to secure even standing room and many stood on the sidewalk. It was ono of the most successful political meetings in the 'State, and demonstrated that the church Republicans are doomed to defeat de-feat in Idaho. |
