Show UNION CARPENTERS OUT Los Angeles Workers Demand More Pay and Closed Shops. ,LOS ANGELES, Sept. 5 Practically all the union carpenters in Los Angeles, estimated at about 2000, went on strike today In order to enforce their demands for an Increase In the wage scalo, "closed shop" and Saturday half-holiday. Two hundred and eighty union plumbers also failed to report for work. The contracting builders are firm In their determination to fight the unions to a finish and declare they will carry on their work with non-union men. Work on a few of the large buildings under construction was suspended today, but thoro wns no general tlo-up as there are many non-unionists employed on all large contracts and more were employed today. |
