INDIANAPOLIS. March 22. After he-lng he-lng la session the greater part of the day the Joint scalo commlttco of the Joint VM conferenco of tho coal operators and United Mine Workers of America and the central compatltlve and southwestern districts, adjourned late this afternoon until tomorrow morning, divided on every point that had been mado during the day by cither side. They were no nearer an agreement than they wero on February 2, when the for-mcr for-mcr Joint conference disagreed and ad-Journed. ad-Journed. President Mitchell of the mine workers, as soon as the afternoon executlvo ses-slon ses-slon had begun, moved that the wage scale of 1003 be adopted for one year In making this motion tho mine work- ers receded from their former demands of IH a run-of-mlno basis, a differential of 7 VM cents, an eight-hour day, an Increase of 12Vj per cent in wages and prohibition of employment of boys at tho mines under ll 1G years of age. After brief argument this proposition wus defeated, the operators and miners voting by States. All the operators voted ll against the motion, and the miners voted unanimously for It. 1003 Scale Rejected. jH H. N. Taylor of the Illinois operators then moved that the wago scale of 1903 bo accepted for two years, providing the minors agree to pay tho expense caused by tho shot-flrcrs" law In Illinois.
