Show Salvation fork Shown on 'Canvas Large Crowd Hears Eecturo by Col. French on Achievements of tho Army. Two .pictures shown at the lecture delivered de-livered by Cpl. Fronch of tho Salvation army last night in the Salt Lake theater thea-ter spoke more than whole 'olumes could of the results achieved by that organization. One of them showed tho first meeting of the Salvation army. At this Gen. and Mrs. Booth wero the only soldier. A mere handful of curious spectators ore represented looking look-ing on at the mooting. x The other picture shows one of tho gatherings held in the Albert hall, London, Lon-don, last year. From lloor to roof tho groat hall was packed so that nothing can he sceYi but a mass of faces. A good crowd assembled to hear Col. French's lecture. Col- and Mrs. French arc the provincial olllcers In command of this part of tho United States. The Colonel gave an interesting .address, giving comprehensive explanations of the pictures that were displayed on the screon. The lecture was over two hours long but evidently tho audience wns entertained for it stayed the entire time. Over 1000 feet of film was displayed. dis-played. Owjng to the deficiency of current cur-rent the light wob not as bright as It might have been, but most of the plc-. plc-. tures were very good. They represented the work that Is being done by the great army all over the possessions of the United States. From New York to San Francisco, and from San Francisco Fran-cisco to Honolulu, the audience followed the speaker in his travels. Maj. Flynn, who Is traveling with Col. French's party, sang some Illustrated songs, which gave much enjoyment. Col. French arid his party leave Salt Lake today, as lie hasj. large portion of the country to cover. He ennnot stay long In any 6nc place. He delivered a sermon yesterday afternoon, which was highly appreciated. He expressed himself him-self as well satisfied with what ho had seen on his visit to tho local headquarters head-quarters of the army. |
