Show TONGUE PARALYZED. Malady Confined to Throat and Tongue Dies of Starvation. SYRACUSE. Dec. 11. Mrs. Laura. C. Myrlo of this city, K years old, died last week from otarvatlon duo to paralysis of the tongue and throat. Tho paralysis waa noticeable nowhere except ln tho tongue and throat, and tho woman could uso all parts of her body easily and went about the house, doing her work, until weakened weak-ened by starvation. Even then sho could not Ho down because of choking from a eeeretlon ln the throat, and remained propped up in a chair until within a few hours of her death. The caso is pronounced unusual by tho physicians. Tno woman's tongue became what Is commonly known aB "thick," and sho had difficulty ln articulation. The trouble Increased until tho throat was affected and thero was difficulty In swallowing. swal-lowing. Solids finally had to bo discarded entirely en-tirely and for months Mrs. Myrto lived Bolely on a liquid diet. Sho was entirely Bpeechlcss. She could make some soundn. but they wore meaningless. During tho last fifteen days of her Illness she took not more than a dlzen spoonfuls of nourishment, nour-ishment, that being liquid, and toward tTio last she received none at all. |
