Show HON. JAMES A. MINER. There has been some sneering and soma wagglshness in this community, because the Honorable James A, Miner received what some people call "double mileage" from the Unlted States. Several Sev-eral impertinent persons have gone so far 'as to say that It was not dignified and patriotic for the Judge to take a big check from the Government, as a Smoot witness, and a still bigger check as a bearer of the electoral vote. And several others have laughed large, knowing and scornful laughs whenever the subject has been mentioned. We beg to remind the public that this Is a subject for neither mirth nor sarcasm. sar-casm. Why wound tho Judge in his most tender feelings by a poor, weak Joke? Is there a man lh Salt Lake so Ignorant as not to know that money is a sacred subject, and that Judge Miner does not like to have It mentioned In tones of levity? And as to those sneers; they are nothing less than envious niggling. Judge Miner probably brings most of the money home with him (it is not conceivable that he spent any appreciable appre-ciable portion of It on his Journey), and he thus adds wealth to this State. He Is a publlo benefactor. |
