The most Important matter mat-ter brought before it was tho report of tho standing commltteo on tho military bill. It reduced the appropriation to a point where, It is said, It will bo Impossible Impos-sible to maintain the organization on the fooling riqulred In order to permit tho State to tuko advantage of tho Government Govern-ment act. The appropriation for maintenance Is reduced to MG00 and the adjutant goncral'a salary Is cut from S1S0O to $1W0 a year, with no assistant. Tho provision for a howitzer battery Is eliminated. A substitute sub-stitute bill for a school of mines at Halloy was presented. It provides a bond Issuo of JEO.000 for building and equipment. Tho Senate wa? not In session. An estimate of tho total appropriations and bond Issues that will bo authorized bv the present cession places the total at over a million and a quarter dollars |
