Tho answer makes genoral denial of the allegations of tho contcstor and speclrt-cally speclrt-cally charges fraud In several counties against tho contestce. It alleges that divers corporations and mlnc-ownoro' associations as-sociations conspired with tho ItepuDiican Stato contral commltteo and spent largo Bums In securing frnudulont naturalizations, naturaliza-tions, padding roglstratlbn lists, corrupting corrupt-ing election officials and buying votes for the purpose of re-electing Gov. Pcabody. Tho answer alleges that upon Information Informa-tion and belief tho ballot boxes of Denver Den-ver do not contain the ballots which were actually cast by qualified voters, that tho ballot boxos havo been tampered with and stuffed slnco tho election by persons In tho employ and under tho direction of tho Republican committee of tho city and county of Denver, and that Bald spurious ballots have been substituted In tho Interests In-terests of the Republican candidates and tho Interest of tho contcstor, pursuant to an unlawful conspiracy entered Into by the Republican committee. In pursuance of a conspiracy, the answer an-swer says, corporations, mine owners and other persons threatened their employees em-ployees with discharge If they failed to vote for Pcabody. Imported Foreigners. It Is alleged that In Las Animas county the Colorado Fuel & Iron company, com-pany, Victor Fuel company, Rocky Mountain Coal and Iron company, and various other-"corporations,, imported from Italy, Austria and other countries coun-tries and States, thousands of persons to take the places of employees who had left on account of labor troubles; that none of these persons were citizens citi-zens of Colorado, but at least 2000 of them were fraudulently naturalized, registered and voted. The contcstee further charges that larire bodies o armed men were about certain voting places In Las Animas county for the purpose of Intimidating voters. Alleged acts of conspiracy and fraud in Las Animas are enumerated, together with many special acts contrary con-trary "to law committed on election day. In Teller county, tho contestce alleges, al-leges, tho mine owners and operators association is not only In full control of the mines, but also directs the manner man-ner in which public olllccs shall be conducted. This association's announcement announce-ment previous to the ejection that their 1000 employees should have a holiday election day without loss of wages was in the nature of a bribe, the contestee declares. Armed Deputies Paraded. It Is further alleged that In the Cripple Crip-ple Creek district on election day, 1000 armed deputies, under the direction of Sheriff Edwards, paraded the streets for the purpose of intimidating voters; that they ejected Democratic Judges from several preclnct3 and intimidated others, and that two election constables consta-bles were shot down and killed without with-out provocation. Prior to the election, it Is charged, 200 desperadoes, many of them ex-convicts, were Imported anil organized Into bands by the Republican committee; commit-tee; that at least 2000 Democratic voters vot-ers were driven from their homes in this county and not permitted to vote, and that there were placed on the registration books and allowed to vote over 2000 persons who were not entitled to register. Moreover, the contestee alleges that the members of the mine owners' association asso-ciation threatened to deprive any miner of his "working card" If he failed to vote for the contcstor against the contestce. con-testce. In Pueblo county, the contestee alleges, al-leges, there were 4000 fictitious names on the registration books, and In addition addi-tion at least 1200 personH voted by Impersonating Im-personating other people. The answer alleges theJRcpubllcan organization in Pueblo county, aided by the deputy clerk of the County court, county Judge and acting clerk, both of whom aro Republicans, caused tp bo issued 1000 naturalization papers to foreigners, none of whom had been in the United States or the Stato of Colorado long enough to have acquired the right to vote. Further, It Is alleged that hundreds hun-dreds of persons were registered In precincts pre-cincts where they did not reside. In Fremont county similar charges are mode, the contcstee alleging that 200 persons wore permitted to vote who were not qualified voters. Frauds in Other Counties. Fraudulent votes are alleged to have been cast for the contcstor In Rio Grande, Costilla, San Miguel, Huerfano and Teller counties, and charges of intimidation, in-timidation, false registration and "ballot-box stufllng" In these counties are made. Alleged fraudulent acts In Jefferson, Pitkin, La Plata and Weld counties are also act forth. In conclusion, Governor Adams claims that with a fair and free vote his majority ma-jority would have been 30,000 instead of only 0774, as shown by the. canvass before be-fore the Legislature. Governor Adams asks the Joint assembly, as-sembly, if It finds that fraudulent votes were cast in Denver, to separate the good from the bud and count the good ballots. To throw out the entire vote of more than 100 precincts, as asked by the conl2stor, the Governor says, would disfranchise thousands of legally qualified qual-ified voters. He avers that fully 10.000 votes that were cast for him In the counties referred re-ferred to In his answer were not counted for him. Sovon experts who had examined the ballot boxes In as many precincts made their reports beforo the Joint Legislative commltteo Hearing tho Peabody-Adams contest this afternoon. They reported that out of tho 20-U ballots found In the seven boxes 91 were fraudulent. At tho night session six experts who examined tho contents of six additional ballot boxes during tho afternoon, reported re-ported that out of 1330 ballots found In tho boxes 473 were fraudulent. Tho experts ex-perts havo opened five additional boxes, but were not ready with their report tonight. to-night.
