Levi Wobbor. tho negro arrested In this city yesterday, charged with fatally assaulting Mrs. James B. Ilarpor, has confessed hi3 guilt He was taken to tho Carson prison last night under a heavy guard to provont lynching, and aftor reaching that place and recovering from his fright, mado a completo confession, admitting that ho entered en-tered tho Harper homo Friday morning and struck Mrs. Harper with an ax as sho lay In bed with hor children. Ho describes de-scribes tho evont with sickening detail and says that aftor ho had dragged the almost lifeless body to tho woods that ho became frightened and ran up tho rlvor, whera ho was found by a farmer and brought to town. i Ho says that ho did not Intend to rob tho houso or commit a criminal assault and has no excuse to offer Tho peoplo of tho city aro still greatly excited and it is openly threatened that If Webber Is brought back that ho will bo lynched. Ho is a Carson negro and only a few days ngo was liberated after serving serv-ing a long jail sentence. |
