Show Judge Suspects Jury in Fraud Case Advises Prosecuting Attorney to Summon Members Before Federal Fed-eral Grand Jury. PORTLAND, Or., Jan. 21. Tho Jury in tho caso of Georgo Sorenson, tried for attempting to bribe former United States District Attorney Hall In an effort to have him hush tho land frauds cases In this Slate, reported to Judgo Bellinger today that It was Impossible for tho Jurors to ucrce upon a verdict In discharging tho Jury Judgo Bellinger Bel-linger called tho attention ot Francis J. Honey, who Is prosecuting the land frauds cases for tho Government, to tho falluro of tho Jury to agrco on a verdict In tho face of evidence, which Judge Bellinger ouiu nuiiviiiuu uui ono voruici tnut oi conviction The court urged Mr. Honey to summon the members of tho Jury before be-fore the federal graud Jury that a thorough thor-ough Investigation of the matter might be had. Judgo Bellinger also said that Sorenson Soren-son had perjured himself In his testimony, but wherein tho defendant had sworn falsely was not revealed, tho court making mak-ing the simple statement that Sorenson had committed perjury. Mr. Honey said that he was not a't all satisfied with the conduct of the Jury and hinted at startling developments in Ihc near future. He will turn the matter over to the federal grand Jury with all tho evidence In his possession. It Is unofllcially reported that two of the Jurors are friends of the defendant, Sorenson. and his counsel Each Individual Indi-vidual Juryman took oath when tho Jury was sworn that ho was unacquainted with tho dofendant. No charges of bribery aro made. |
