Show LIBERTY PARK IS GREAT. The rush to Liberty Park on Sunday was phenomenal; the people, especially the children, made the place a scene of tumultuous joy. It was a pleasure to see the zest with which the children and those In charge of them enjoyed the outing among the trees, and the means of diversion afforded. These are not as many nor as varied as they might well be, but such us thcrcarc, afford the deepest satisfaction. Among the first Improvements of those that are needed, we would suggest sug-gest a first-class band stand; one that would help to make the music -carry far and mellow I lie sound at close range, besides protecting the players from the sun. Hold's band is dolus the handsome thing by the public, In furnishing fur-nishing the exquisite concerts It gives, free, to the Joyous Sunday gatherings at Liberty Park; and the City Council would do well to meet the generous efforts ef-forts of the band by putting up for It a stand of the most approved pattern and convenience. Other things that might well be- made free, besides the swings, are some simple sim-ple gymnastic apparatus, a number of merry-go-rounds, and some of the easy games, as throwing the rings, small bowls, archery, and the like, keeping keep-ing ,out the competition of adults, and making the place a genuine resort for the young folks. All these things would cost but a trifle, and the addition addi-tion they would make to the enjoyment of the public would be wondrously great. Of course, In making Liberty Park thus a thoroughly enjoyable place for the public, and especially for families, Including children, it would be especially espe-cially desirable to keep down rowdy-Ism, rowdy-Ism, roughness, foul language and all fo .us of hoodlumlsm. On Sunday especially es-pecially the need for stringent regulations regula-tions to this end, and for their rigorous enforcement, would be acute. Special policemen for that day and to the end that the Park be made absolutely safe and decent, should be provided, and enough of them to put down promptly and effectually every manifestation of license or abuse. If the Councllmen had seen the happy crowds at the Park on Sunday, and noted the enjoyment of tho great throngs, their keen zest in the little outing, wc are sure that the needed additions to comfort and the enjoyment enjoy-ment of the occasion, would be voted without a dissenting voice. |
