Show SAN PEDRO LINE TO REACH LAS VEGAS RANCH IN JULY Special lo The Tribune. CALIENTE, Nov., May 23. Accompanying Accom-panying J. Q. Goss, Jr., local auditor of the San Pedro road, from Callente to the present terminus of tho road, on a pay day trip, The Tribune man noted that near Aden, about sixty miles south of Callente, there rise on the cast side of the road limestone cliffs of singular regularity resembling a gigantic pipe organ, whllo a few miles below the camp are smooth walls of trachyte on which are graven hieroglyphics, square, circles, a six-Inch row of curved horned mountain goats and a score of other singular picture writings, evidently existent ex-istent perhaps for hundreds of years. Their meaning is not decipherable and their author's Identity cannot even be surmised. The town of Moapa lies on cither side of the deep, swift Muddy river, a misnomer mis-nomer at this season as its waters are as clear as a crystal. Giant trestles along the right of way are filled for a depth of forty feet with rock and sand to level up the roadbed to the cuts on either side of the river, around which the track now runs over a ahoo-fly track. The track Is now- laid to a point about four miles south of the river, making a total mileage of eighty-one miles south from CuIJente, and the U. C. company Is making rapid headway with Its grading grad-ing toward the on-coming western graders, and It ls assured that the road will be In shape for irafilc to Las Vegas ranch by the middle of July. Auditor Goss returned to Salt Lake City today. General Foreman McDermott accompanied accom-panied First Assistant Engineer McCartney Mc-Cartney to the front yesterday returning return-ing with him to Callente this morning. Mr. McCartney returned to Salt Lake this afternoon. Postmaster Ed Clark returned from the front where he has been looking over his mining Interests, yesterday. He reports having a large amount of high-grade free gold ore In sight and feels Jubilant over recent developments on his claims. .Mrs. Willie Stuart of the Ias Vegas ranch passed through Callente today en route to Salt Lake City. Willis Franklin and George Place of San Diego passed through camp yesterday, yes-terday, having come from Manvel across the desert via the right of way of the San Pedro road, en route to Salt Lake City. They report the trip pleasant, pleas-ant, having had unusually cool weather all the way and say that the work on the western terminus of tho road is progressing rapidly northerly and that with the exception of one long rock cut southwest of Las Vegas ranch, the graders will meet with no check to rapid advancement. High-grade free gold was struck yesterday yes-terday In the Fetterman tunnel here at the breast of the tunnel which Is now In about 130 feet. k J. A.
