Show Paid Money to Secure an Office New York Man Incarcerated in the City Prison to Answer a Very Serious Question. NEW YORK, April 27. Emll A. Sonner has been placed In tho city prison on an execution secured by a man who says ho paid the prisoner ?22o to bo appointed a policeman. Sonner, a few hours previously, pre-viously, had made a statement to District Dis-trict Attorney Jerome along the lines of :that made a fow days ago by William, Duke, who asserted that at least $200,-000 $200,-000 had been collected by him and paid to certain persons "higher up" for positions po-sitions in the ser'vlco of the city. Sonner In his statement Is said to havo nctually named men connected with tho Civil Sor-vlce Sor-vlce commission. Until his statements have been verified, however, tho District Attorney sayB he will rest In the belief that Duke and Sonner were simply engaged en-gaged in the business of getting money from Job-hunters without rendering them any oervlce. |
